What Color Eyeshadow For Blue Eyes?

There’s a myth out there that says if you have gorgeous blue eyes then you’re limited to the colors of eyeshadow you can use.  That’s just not true. In this post I’m going to outline the best eyeshadow for blue eyes and which colors you should avoid.

The color wheel provides a great guideline for the kinds of colors you should be looking at.  The general rule is to find your eye color on the wheel and then choose a color opposite it for your eyeshadow.  Browns, purples, pinks and oranges will be your best option.

Try and pick the closest shade of blue on the color wheel that corresponds to your eyes. What’s across from it?  Try and find a palette that matches those 4-5 shades.  You don’t have to stick with those colors but just try the corresponding shades and see what happens.  Many people would find the oranges or purples a bit adventurous. Just try them out. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the way those colors really bring out your blue eyes.

So now that you know what colors will work with your eyes, let’s talk about actually appying eyeshadow to them.

How To Apply Eyeshadow For Blue Eyes in 5 Easy Steps

What’s The Best Way To Apply Eyeshadow for Blue eyes?

The process takes less than 5 minutes so it’s great for those of you who are in a rush every morning like me! These steps will ensure that your eyeshadow lasts all day and into the night, making those gorgeous blue eyes really stand out.

Step 1. First you’ll need to place a drop of primer or foundation on the eyelid and spread it out with your finger to create a smooth area to apply the eyeshadow. This will hold the product in place and really brighten the look!  Using primer as a base will also look very professional and it will last longer.

Step 2. Use a palette that has 3-4 colors ranging from light, middle, to dark. Blending these colors as we go along is very important to the overall look. Start at the bottom of the eyelid. With a flat angle brush apply the darkest color in the palette right along the lashes. Begin at the inner corner and work your way along to the outer corner.

Step 3. Next, using one of the middle tones and a soft brush, add some eyeshadow to the outer corner of the eye. To really define the eye, brush the eyeshadow along the crease. Defining the eyes will make your blue eyes pop.

Step 4. Clean off your soft brush and using the lightest color in the palette, apply the eyeshadow to the center of the eye. This will brighten the look.

Step 5. Blend the shades. You don’t want any hard lines.  Blending is very important and only takes a few seconds.

There you go.  This basic technique works with any palette you might choose – browns (tan, mocha, brown, chocolate) or purples (lilac, lavender, plum) for example.
